Fighting Women

Solace, Confronting, Empowerment

This project came from the thesis "Milky flame to a Ritual" written by Wooryun. In this thesis, exploring the idea of gut feeling and irrationality in relation to how womanhood is portrayed in both Western and Eastern societies, where she draws personal relations within her life and practice, and portraying gut-feeling as a virtue. Throughout her childhood, Wooryun’s obsession that derived from her gut feeling in fencing came again recently. Secondly, she has researched Mongolian Nomad in the International Institute of Social History. During this time, she found Matriarchal culture in Mongolian Nomad tribes which resonates with her history as an Asian woman living in Western society. With this beginner’s interest in fencing: a choreography of fighting and research of Matriarchal culture in Mongol, it is a scenography of a fighting woman. That consists of making a sword as in handcrafted of reinterpretation and symbolic action woman, facing (fighting) with hardship and publications that contain a hybrid of fencing and Diasporic women towards formulating "fighting woman."
